A quick post with a few thoughts...

Are writers present in their characters?

Of course they are. Even the authors who say they aren't. Even in the nastiest, most-opposite-of-you character. The reason is simple: they are written through our filter of the world. Our POV.  Some characters have more of us in them than others, and I'm sure you can have many discussions on all of the reasons.

No, this is not porn. That's slang, for gettin' on my last nerve, and such. Dang, but some days people wear me out.

So let's go over a few things because I feel like it, and I need to get it out of my system, and also - surely some of you will be nodding along with this. This is for you, too. Now, some of this applies more to the net. But some applies to both offline and online. The net just seems to amplify bad behavior.

What's technique? SOC

 How dare I speak of technique. Clearly, I don't have one. I'm not even a consistent blogger. 

Tell me, is it better to have a set structure, a schedule; better to have an ever shifting open ended affair? Or something in between?

I don't know. You are you, I am me, and we don't fit into the same box. Therefore, I'm not actually speaking about technique.

But then again...

Where is the point that you realize whatever you're doing isn't working, and that perhaps you should try something else? I susp...

Nostalgia and stasis

I'm going back home to Missouri (round the Ozarks) in mid June, to see my parents. It is their 50th wedding anniversary, and that's amazing to me. They were high school sweet hearts.

This may seem strange to say, but I'm more excited about going than I would expect. Not because I don't love my parents and want to see them. I find I'm craving that simplicity of life, that slower pace, and I know damned well some of it can't truly be recaptured; you know, that time of innocence when you were a c...
