Why horror?

There are countless dissertations on the psychology of people who write, read, view, horror. Today I'm not delving into why we write it. Today I'd like to ask why YOU like horror, and what kind.

I will list some of the obvious reasons, however, if not pen an entire essay:

The adrenaline rush sans actual harm.

A desire to 'study' the dark side of human nature, again from a safe place.

Morbid curiosity (to put it in general terms).

It's strangely seductive in its ways, particularly certain themes.
